Objectives

Danish Workfare Watch will function as a nation wide collective forum for the unemployed and their organizations.

The secretariat of Danish Workfare Watch will voice the concerns of the unemployed and coordinate initiatives taken locally, by individuals and organizations. The secretariat will also service the elect board of Danish Workfare Watch.

Danish Workfare Watch aims at publishing a magazine for all unemployed.

Danish Workfare Watch will work for decent rates of unemployment benefits and social allowances. It must be possible to maintain a reasonable standard of living and a law-abiding life based on the disbursed rates.

Danish Workfare Watch is opposing forced labour schemes and forced participation in useless courses. Employment is based on mutual consent and in accordance with etablished terms of agreement by the collective bargaining parties.

Danish Workfare Watch attempts to insure that unemployed citizens enjoy a level of civic rights equal to those employed.

Written plans for unemployed must be based on voluntariness, as this is seen to be conditional for any successful outcome.

Danish Workfare Watch supports all enterprise aiming at making labour and social laws more humane and comprehensible.

Danish Workfare Watch is independent of any financial or political interests.

Let's get organized!

Danish Workfare Watch attempts to mobilize all unemployed within one organization in order to stand united when confronting politicians, bureaucracy and the press.

We now have a smooth running organization along with a nation wide network. Our founding general meeting took place the 3rd. of July 1998. Both individuals, local groups and organizations can become members and/or support us financially. However, only members that have been unemployed at some point within the last five years can sit on the elect board of Danish Workfare Watch

Our main office is located in Copenhagen Nørrebro, thus close to Christiansborg (parliament), the central decision making institutions and the media.

All unemployed, that be social clients, insured unemployed, early retired, flex-jobbers etc. are subject to complex legislation and too many get haphazard treatment by the "system". We're committed to cleaning up this law jungle and demand respect as ordinary citizens with rights.

All members recieve at least four news letters a year.

Danish Workfare Watch wish to improve conditions of the unemployed...while they're unemployed...and will challange suffocating definitions such as "marginalized" and "ousted". We have cousins, mothers, children, footballs and smelly socks too. Only the size of our bank accounts are very different.

We're political in Danish Workfare Watch - but not partisan.

By the way. If you're residing in Denmark as unemployed why not join us? We firmly believe it makes people feel better, when they actively involve themselves in initiatives aiming at improving their own rights. Please take a look at the registration form. Our modest membership fee is DKK 100,- annually.
